THE TAJ MAHAL WORLD HERITAGE SITE

The Taj Mahal is a massive mausoleum and it is widely known as the most iconic building in India. This Ivory White mausoleum is located on the banks of Yamuna River in Agra district. Despite not being in the capital, it’s iconic and it does bring in front some pretty impressive sights for you to check out. Taj Mahal was built in 1632 by a team commissioned by Shah Jahan who reigned from 1628 to 1658. The thing to keep in mind is that Taj Mahal Agra was not a palace where he could reign. On the contrary, this is actually a tomb for his wife. While this seems outrageous by today’s standards, it’s pretty interesting to see the fact that people used to create such massive buildings as a way to showcase their love. And Taj Mahal really is one of the most interesting buildings and places that you could find at that particular time.

What you have to realize here is that the tomb is a centerpiece of a 42-acre complex. The idea is that yes, this is a huge complex and the Taj Mahal is situated on the northern side of the complex. The inner chamber of main tomb was beautifully decorated with precious stones of that time. But there’s also a mosque here, you also have a guest house, there are even some formal gardens that are bounded on three sides. If you see the Taj Mahal Agra from the other side of Yamuna river, it just looks stunning and you will be surprised by this different view. So there’s quite a lot of cool stuff here and it’s a rather enjoyable, unique place for you to peruse.

The thing to keep in mind is that it cost around 32 million rupees at the time. As you can imagine, that was a huge amount of money, and it goes to show the huge importance of the Taj Mahal Agra and the location as a whole. The construction required no less than 20000 artisans at that time, and the chief architect of this construction was Ustad Ahmad Lahauri, who was the renowned architect at that particular time. The labor worked really hard for many years to complete this perfect symmetrical building. Just imagine how perfect planning has been done hundreds years ago that has made Taj Mahal one of the wonders in today’s time.

HOW TAJ MAHAL WAS BUILT

As we mentioned earlier, Taj Mahal Agra was created by Shah Jahan in order to commemorate the memory of Mumtaz Mahal, his wife at that time. Things were quite different at that time, and as you can see the appreciation was huge, to the point where it was extremely hard to pay homage in a way that wasn’t off the charts, especially at this particular level. As mentioned in Taj Mahal History, the building was requested in 1631, but the constructions started in 1632, as it took a lot of time to prepare Taj Mahal Architecture and handle everything correctly, which was a crucial aspect to consider regarding stuff like this.

Taj Mahal Agra

The main mausoleum was created in 1643 actually, and the surrounding buildings were created around 5 years later. So it wasn’t just a simple construction, it took a few decades to finish everything that was planned. But as you can see, it was well worth, as Taj Mahal is an iconic and absolutely impressive palace. The decorations added to it are astonishing. You have a lapidary of both semi precious and precious gemstones. Many of the chambers are embossed or they have inner sculptures. Some of them also have pietra dura jali inlays, all of which add up to express tremendous details and a huge array of benefits for people that enjoy seeing stuff like this. As you can see, the Taj Mahal Agra had a long and interesting past, which is preserved nowadays by international authorities! Archeological Survey of India is trying its best to preserve and maintain it, but still there are many things that need to be implemented to preserve the cultural heritage of the country like India.
